Cat Stevens - Yusuf Islam Former Pop star, UK

All I have to say is all what you know already, to confirm what you already know, the message of the Prophet (may the mercy and blessings of God be upon him) as given by God - the Religion of Truth.  As human beings we are given a consciousness and a duty that has placed us at the top of creation… It is important to realize the obligation to rid ourselves of all illusions and to make our lives a preparation for the next life.  Anybody who misses this chance is not likely to be given another, to be brought back again and again, because it says in the Glorious Quran that when man is brought to account, he will say,  “O Lord, send us back and give us another chance.  The Lord will say, ‘If I send you back you will do the same.’” My early religious upbringing I was brought up in the modern world of all the luxury and the high life of show business.  I was born in a Christian home, but we know that every child is born in his original nature - it is only ...

Ice Cube

Image
Ice Cube, whose real name is O’Shea Jackson, was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. Cube is a Muslim, having converted in the 1990s. It is unclear what his religion was before that–if there was one. He takes a personal approach to his religion, saying that he isn’t a part of any sect or faction, that his spirituality is just between him and God. 1  He said: What I call myself is a natural Muslim, because it’s just me and God. You know, going to the mosque, the ritual and the tradition, it’s just not in me to do. So I don’t do it. 2 Now a man with a family and a part of the mainstream entertainment industry, Cube has implied he cut ties with the Nation of Islam–the somewhat fundamentalist, militant Muslim organization–but in the early days of his conversion, he wrote on the sleeve of his album,  Death Certificate : The best place for a young black male or female is the Nation of Islam. But this might be a bit too controversial for the modern Cube...

Mike Tyson

Image
Mike Tyson was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Tyson’s childhood was a tumultuous one. His father left the family when Tyson was two-years-old. And his mother died when he was 16, leaving him in the legal care of his boxing coach. Suffice it to say, religion was likely not a part of his life. But in 1992, Tyson was convicted of rape and during his three years in prison, he converted to Islam. 1 Now, Tyson is quite devout, even having made a trip to Mecca 2  as well as marrying the daughter of a Muslim cleric. 3  And though Tyson admits that he doesn’t follow the Muslim tradition like he should (such as not always praying five times a day), 4  it is undoubtedly a very big part of his life. He said: Being a Muslim is who I am as a person. But let’s say there wasn’t Islam. Just that spirit, just for me to have my everyday [routines] helps. I have to be constantly on the move, or else the machine is going to break. I’m a realist. I deal with the world comi...

Muhammad Ali - Cassius Clay " American boxer, USA "

Image
American boxer, Three times World Heavyweight Champion, embraced Islam in 1965. "I have had many nice moments in my life. But the feelings I had while standing on Mount Arafat (just outside Makka, Saudi Arabia) on the day of the Hajj (the Muslim pilgrimage), was the most unique. I felt exalted by the indescribable spiritual atmosphere there as over one and a half million pilgrims invoked God to forgive them for their sins and bestow on them His choicest blessings. It was an exhilarating experience to see people belonging to different colours, races and nationalities, kings, heads of state and ordinary men from very poor countries all clad in two simple white sheets praying to God without any sense of either pride or inferiority. It was a practical manifestation of the concept of equality in Islam." One of the first public figures in America to be identified with Islam was boxer Muhammad Ali, to whom more media attention has been given than to any other athlete. He...

Leopold Weiss - converted to Islam " Ex Jew, Poland "

Image
He was born in July 1900 in the city of Lvov (German Lemberg), now in Poland, then part of the Austrian Empire. He was the descendant of a long line of rabbis, a line broken by his father, who became a barrister. Asad himself received a thorough education that would qualify him to keep alive the family's rabinnical tradition. In 1922 Weiss left Europe for the Middle East for what was supposed to be a short visit to an uncle in Jerusalem. At that stage, Weiss, like many of his generation, counted himself an agnostic, having drifted away from his Jewish moorings despite his religious studies. There, in the Middle East he came to know and like the Arabs and was struck by how Islam infused their everyday lives with existential meaning, spiritual strength and inner peace. At the young age of 22 Weiss became a correspondent for the Frankfurter Zeitung, one of the most prestigious newspapers for Germany and Europe. As a journalist, he traveled extensively, mingled with ordinar...

Kareem AbdulJabbar " Greater basketball player of all time, USA "

Image
Acknowledged by many players as the greatest
basketball player of all time, voted six times the National Basketball Association's most valuable
player, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is also one of the most
visible Muslims in the American public arena. The 7' 2"
native upper Harlem, born Ferdinand Lewis Alcindor, starred for UCLA before entering the National
Basketball Association with the Milwaukee Bucks in 1969. Alcindor later went to the Los Angeles Lakers.
He was so dominant in college basketball that "dunking," at which he excelled, was formally banned from the intercollegiate sport. As a result,
Lew Alcindor developed the shot for which
he is personally the most famous the
"skyhook"-which has been called the
shot that changed basketball, and with the
help of which he was to score more than
thirty eight thousand points in regular season NBA play. When Milwaukee
won the NBA title in 1970-71, Alcindor,
who was by then Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, was ...
